New Books donated to St Andrews School

A set of 27 brand new books worth £200 has been given by the Churches Together in Cullompton and District to St Andrews School. The picture shows Revd Paul Booth, chairman of the Churches Together group and Revd Colin Wood, of Cullompton Baptist Church presenting the books to the school council, watched by headmaster Bob Whitell, at a school assembly on Friday 18th July.

During the assembly, Revd Booth, told the children about some of the exciting books being given - which included “The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” by C.S.Lewis (which includes pictures from the first Narnia film) and “The Complete Bible Baddies” by Bob Hartman, and encouraged them to get reading.

The presentation is part of a national scheme called “Speaking Volumes” and was founded in 1968 by the Christian Book Promotion Trust. It recommends a set of mainstream religious books by a national panel of literary experts from all the major denominations. Over the past 12 months, 140 placements have been made in libraries across Britain.

The Churches Together in Cullompton and District have donated over £500 for this project and will shortly be presenting books to the New Children’s Centre, Willowbank School, the Cullompton Town Library and the Devon Mobile Library. This is part of the Hope 2008 project which is encouraging churches to work together in 2008 to do something practical for their local communities.
